Our History
With an entrepreneurial spirit and a shared passion for serving others, Michael and Maureen LaFontaine took a huge leap of faith in 1980 when they opened a new car dealership in Dearborn.
The LaFontaines knew they wanted to build their family legacy and positively impact the community by introducing a new type of dealership experience. They set out to cultivate a hometown dealership where every customer was treated like family. Eventually, that approach became known as "The Family Deal" and laid the foundation for their motto: "It's not just what you get, it's how you feel."
That first LaFontaine dealership quickly earned a stellar reputation, with the couple expanding the family business to Milford. With Maureen at the helm of the Milford dealership, the LaFontaine Automotive Group officially blossomed as she and her husband carved their niche in Michigan's bustling automotive landscape. The LaFontaine dealerships were revered for their family-centric values, transparency, and strong community ties.
Fast forward to 2005, and the LaFontaine Automotive Group expanded when LaFontaine Chevrolet Dexter opened its doors. Today, our dealership is one of over 50 franchises, numerous collision centers, and dozens of retail locations under the LaFontaine name. More importantly, we are still a family-owned and operated business with the same values and hometown culture that Michael and Maureen established decades ago.

Our Impact, Our Community
We are always looking ahead to find ways to challenge ourselves and improve. This forward focus is apparent in the design of our dealership, which is Silver LEED Certified. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, showcases our efforts to positively impact our community. Our state-of-the-art dealership is designed to use minimal energy and water, reducing emissions and our carbon footprint. It's our way of leaving the world a better, greener place.
Beyond the brick-and-mortar of our dealership, our impact in our community extends to the nearly 3,000 individuals who are part of our team and the many organizations we support. One of those organizations is U CAN-CER VIVE, which was founded by Michael and Maureen's son and daughter, Ryan and Kelley. The organization donates all its profits to funding and supporting local cancer research grants, relying on dedicated volunteers passionate about finding a cure for cancer.
