What to Do When a Recall Is Issued
When you hear about a Chevy recall, you may worry if it’s the same model as your current vehicle. There is no need to worry, we here at LaFontaine Chevrolet Dexter can help. If your Chevy vehicle or any of its components are recalled, our recall Center is the place to go.
A car recall is issued by the manufacturer when either the manufacturer or the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) determines a vehicle or one or more of that vehicle’s components is unsafe. A car or its parts may be deemed unsafe due to safety risk or failure to meet minimum required safety standards.
If a Chevy vehicle is recalled, Chevrolet is required to fix the problem however they can. Depending on the extent of the issue, this may mean repairing the car, replacing it, or refunding you for the cost of the vehicle. This means you do not have to pay to get your recall repaired.
Finding Your Car’s VIN
To confirm if your car is affected by a recall, you will need your car’s VIN, or vehicle identification number. It is important to check your VIN to be sure your vehicle is the exact model that has been recalled. The seventeen-character VIN is usually displayed on your car’s registration, inside your car, and sometimes even on your insurance card.
Your VIN can be found on the lower left area of your windshield or on the inside of the driver’s side door. Once you have your VIN, you are ready to set up your Chevy recall service appointment with us.
