Does it Matter What Kind of Oil I Get at My Oil Change?
Getting an oil change can be annoying. The process seldom fits into your schedule, and it’s money you would like to keep inside of your checking account.
When your service tech asks you if you want a better oil, our gut reaction is to say “no,” but you are hurting your engine and your wallet with that decision. At LaFontaine Chevrolet of Dexter, we are here to teach you why.
Why You Should Get a Synthetic Oil at Your Oil Change
Between saving you money with less oil changes and less vehicle service, it is a good idea to go with a better oil at your oil change.
The better oils that you can get for your vehicle are synthetic oils. These oils last longer than conventional oil, so you don’t need to get an oil change nearly as often. With conventional oil, you have to get an oil change after about every 2,000 to 3,000 miles.
With synthetic oil, you can wait between 5,000 and 7,500 miles. If your vehicle can take a full-synthetic oil, it can potentially last about 15,000 miles.
The next great thing about synthetic oil is that it can also help clean your engine. Conventional oils have more additives that gum up your engine. Remember, the money it costs to get an oil change pale in comparison to what it costs to get a new engine in your vehicle.
What Else Should I Do at My Oil Change?
Your oil change is a prime time to get several other components of your vehicle checked. For example, you should look into getting a tire alignment.
Over time, your tires can become unaligned. When this happens, the pressure does not evenly spread to all of your tires, and some will get wear and tear quicker than others. That means that you will have to get tires replaced more often, or a tire can blow at the worst possible moment.
You should also get a vehicle brake inspection. Oftentimes, a service center will do one without you asking, but you should still get an idea of how your brakes are holding up. Even if you don’t get your brakes fixed on this visit, you will still get a good idea of when you should come in to get them fixed.
LaFontaine Chevrolet of Dexter is here to help you learn all of your vehicles needs and find your best option for vehicle care.
