There are general packages like the Assist Step and Tonneau Value Package, the Snow Plow Prep Package, the Trailering Package, or the Max Trailering Package that add extra utility features or capabilities to select trims. There are other packages that are style or appearance-oriented, such as the Liner Protection Package, Rally Edition Package, or the Dark Essentials Package. There are also specialty packages such as the Z71 Off-Road Package, which is available for the WT, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trims, which add off-road accessories and suspension tuning to the Silverado 1500.
The LT also has access to other special packages such as the All Star Edition, All Star Edition Plus, and the Texas Edition Plus packages. The RST is also available with an RST All Star Premium Package and an RST Texas Edition Premium Package. The ZR2 doesn’t have access to as many packages since it’s mostly fully featured, but you can get it with the ZR2 Bison Edition package, which adds AEV-themed off-road content and badging to an already feature-rich trim.

Bed Options, Cab Configurations, and Colors
The Chevy Silverado 1500 is available in multiple cab and bed options and available in different colors depending on the trim for the 2024 model year. This includes a regular cab that has only two doors, a double cab that features two full doors and two half doors, and a crew cab that features four full-sized doors. The Silverado 1500 can seat up to six people when configured in the double or crew cab formats. The Silverado 1500 is also available in three different bed sizes, including a short 5.8′ bed, a standard 6.6′ bed, and a long 8.2′ bed.
The WT trim is the only trim available that can be configured as a regular cab with a standard or long bed. Only the WT, Custom, LT, and RST are available as a double cab with a standard bed. All of the trims except for the ZR2 can be configured with a crew cab and a standard bed. So that’s something to keep in mind depending on the length and size configuration you’re looking for when it comes to shopping for the right sized Silverado 1500.
There are nine total exterior color options available for the 2024 model year Silverado 1500 and two premium colors that you can pay extra for. The premium colors are not available for the WT or Custom trim grades, which is something else you should consider when it comes to selecting an appropriate color for the truck. The color options are listed below, with the two premium colors at the bottom:
- Dark Ash Metallic
- Red Hot
- Summit White
- Black
- Slate Gray Metallic
- Sterling Gray Metallic
- Lakeshore Blue Metallic
- Glacier Blue Metallic
- Radiant Red Tintcoat
Performance, Fuel Economy, and Towing Capacity
The 2024 Silverado 1500 offers four different engines in either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The starting and default engine for most of the trims is the 2.7-liter TurboMax inline 4-cylinder. The TurboMax outputs up to 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque and is paired up with an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can expect to achieve a fuel economy of 18 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway in rear-wheel drive or 18 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway in four-wheel drive. The TurboMax has a max towing capacity of 9,500 lbs and a max payload rating of 2,260 lbs.
There are two V8 options, both paired up with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The first is a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 that manages 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, and the second is a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 that can produce up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The 5.3-liter V8 has a fuel economy of 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway in rear-wheel drive and up to 15 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway in four-wheel drive; the 5.2-liter V8 also has a towing capacity of 11,300 lbs and a payload rating of 2,180 lbs. The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 is only available in four-wheel drive format and manages a fuel economy of 15 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 manages a towing capacity of 13,300 lbs and a max payload rating of 1,980 lbs.
The final option in the offerings is the 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbo-diesel, known as the Duramax. This diesel engine manages 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque and is paired up with a 10-speed automatic transmission. You can expect the best fuel economy out of the Duramax, topping out at 23 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway in rear-wheel drive and up to 23 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway in four-wheel drive. It also shares a tow rating with the 6.2-liter V8 at 13,300 lbs and a max payload rating of 1,970 lbs.
If you need a truck purely for utility and work, then the Duramax is going to be an easy choice. If you’re all about performance and speed, the 6.2-liter V8 might be to your preference, but it also has some great utility ratings too. For all-around daily driving, the TurboMax or 5.2-liter V8 are obviously going to be some good go-to options for you, especially if you don’t want to pay extra for the Duramax.
